Review:

Is there a more professional outfit that the Marcus Malone Band? They were delayed on the motorway by an accident and had to set up in double quick time, which they did without any fuss or bother. No time to sound check, but they got going promptly and once that sweet, melodic, velvet-smooth soul-blues sound they do better than anyone got underway there was no stopping until the end of the evening. Stuart Dixon was on terrific form, his stinging guitar style (think Freddie and Albert King, or Albert Collins) perfectly complimenting Marcus's looser, almost psychedelic playing. Marcus has the sweetest of voices, in the Paul Rodgers league, and all his material is distinctive, great songs and great arrangements, terrific light and shade, the whole band purring all evening like a powerful limousine cruising down a tropical ocean highway. This was classy entertainment of the first order and the lucky few to hear it were unanimous in praise of this seasoned band. Cheers lads!
