Blues-rock singer Jeff Healey is recovering from surgery to remove cancerous tissue from both lungs.
Healey's publicist says the celebrated blind guitarist underwent a major operation Thursday and is recuperating in a Toronto hospital with family at his side. Richard Flohil says Healey was diagnosed with lung cancer in December but chose to keep the news private until now.

"Following the successful guest appearances on the autumn UK tour, Otis Taylor has invited young British guitarist Tommy Allen to be his designated guitarist for Europe and the UK.
Tommy's first official appearances as a band member will be on the three week European tour in March encompassing France, Italy, Austria and Hungary. The tour will also take in a number of prestigious festivals.
Tommy is leader of blues/rock trio Trafficker who have recently completed a 12 date tour of Germany which was so successful that a return is already being planned for later in the year along with a tour of Poland. He will also be teaming up with Muddy Waters' veteran harp player Mojo Buford for their third UK tour in the autumn."

McComb native, guitar pioneer named lifetime achiever
JACKSON (AP) — Influential rock ‘n’ roller and McComb native Bo Diddley, still performing at 78, will be honored for lifetime achievement in the 2007 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts.
Diddley tops a list of recipients that also includes leading American abstract artist Sam Gilliam, born in Tupelo, and superb blues drummer Sam Carr of Dundee, Viking Range Corp. in Greenwood and Nora Davis Magnet School in Laurel.
The public ceremony for honorees to accept their awards is Feb. 16 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Jackson. It’s free and open to the public; recipients will be present.
